Review: Rye Lane (Film)

★★★★★

Love is what? Love is sweet O especially in South East London.

Rye Lane follows two youngsters Yaz and Dom, played by Vivian Oparah and David Jonsson, reeling from bad breakups who connect over an eventful day in South-London.

The first time watching RYE LANE all I could think of was “this is an instant British rom-com classic”. The insane colours, beautifully vivd and bright. The cinematography was incredible, loved the fisheye lense. It was full of pure joy and packed with personality; absolutely hilarious, energetic and just stunning. A reminder of why I love London (especially South East). The second time I watched it, there was happy tears falling. It’s such a beautiful love letter to South London. Rye Lane is what I have been missing in cinema.

Throughout we see hidden references to other rom-com, such as Love Actually and Bridget Jones and incredible guest cameos from Munya Chawawa, Michael Dapaah and none other the legendary Colin Firth who has starred in quintessential British romcoms. Seeing him on screen serving up burritos at Love Guac'tually, was almost like handing a baton to the new generation of love on screen and sharing his support, I’m here for it.

It’s still playing in selected cinemas and now available to watch online on Disney Plus.
